VAIL — Vail Mountain, originally slated to open Friday, Nov. 18, has set a new opening day of Friday, Nov. 25, Vail Resorts said Tuesday.

Beaver Creek Resort is still scheduled for a Wednesday, Nov. 23, opening day, conditions permitting, officials said.

Warm temperatures have hampered snowmaking efforts over the last several weeks, and natural snowfall has been light.

A snowstorm bringing 3-6 inches is in the forecast for the Vail area Thursday into Friday.

“We’re looking forward to a shift in the weather pattern this week to assist with resort snowmaking efforts and to another great winter season ahead,” said Chris Jarnot, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Vail Mountain. “We saw a very similar start to the 2007-2008 season, and the resort went on to receive more than 100 inches of snow by Dec. 12, contributing to a well-above-average snow year.”

Keystone and Copper are set to open Friday; Breckenridge is slated to begin operations on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Vail Valley Foundation said the Birds of Prey World Cup race is still on track.

“Despite unseasonably warm temps in the Rockies this November, the Audi Birds of Prey World Cup race week is currently planned to continue as normal. The EverBank America’s Winter Opening is still on schedule, and we are looking forward to great concerts, Beers of Prey, film showings and other activities in Beaver Creek Dec. 1-4. We will have more detail after snow-control day on Friday, Nov. 18.”
